How does LaCrosse test snake boots?

It’s never wise to take chances when it comes to snake strikes. That’s why we’re so rigorous with the testing and product development that goes into every pair of snake boots we offer. We want to provide the best possible protection to every customer. Each snake boot ranges from 16” to 18” in height to best protect the lower leg, as most snake strikes occur above the ankle and below the knee. Using strategically placed leather, rubber, and non-woven snake guard material, we provide the best possible protection from shin to toe. To ensure our work is up to the task, all of our snake boot models are sent to an unbiased, third-party facility where they’re subjected to a range of penetration tests. Each boot is filled with an inflated latex balloon that easily identifies any possible puncture from the exterior. You can rest assured that our boots make the grade and we bring to market the best protection you can get in the uncertain world of snake country.

While LaCrosse Footwear thoroughly tests the protection provided in all of our snake boots, the world is an unpredictable place. To ensure your personal safety, extreme caution should be taken in any environment with snakes and confrontations with snakes should be avoided.

Key Details

LaCrosse snake boots work by using a tough, flexible Snake Guard fabric layered between the boot’s liner and outer material, preventing fangs from piercing the leg while allowing movement and breathability, combined with tall shafts (16-18 inches) for coverage, waterproof membranes (Dry-Core) to keep feet dry, and durable outsoles for traction in snake-infested environments. They use technologies like Alpha>> rubber over neoprene for flexibility and comfort, ensuring you’re protected from bites and wet conditions without sacrificing mobility.

How the Protection Works:

  • Snake Guard: This is the key component—a specialized, tightly woven fabric placed inside the boot (between the waterproof lining and the exterior) that resists punctures from snake fangs.
  • Height: The tall design (often 17-18 inches) covers the lower leg, where most snake strikes occur (below the knee).
  • Material: Durable leather and heavy-duty nylon form the outer shell, while rubber and neoprene (in Alpha models) offer flexibility and waterproofing.

Other Key Features:

  • Waterproofing: Many models use LaCrosse’s Dry-Core lining to keep feet dry from water while letting sweat escape.
  • Comfort: Features like cushioned footbeds (polyurethane or EVA), nylon shanks for support, and athletic designs keep them comfortable for long treks.
  • Traction: Outsoles with multi-directional lugs shed mud and provide grip on varied terrain.

In Summary:

You get 360-degree protection from snakes (and thorns/brambles) thanks to the Snake Guard and tall shaft, combined with comfortable, waterproof construction, allowing you to focus on hunting or exploring.
